Panama Real Estate Bubble Bursting Update 07/05/07

January 31st, 2012

Today La Prensa Newspaper reported that a project named Park 32 in Coste del Este has announced it is failing to complete. Reportedly the project was sold out which leads us to believe the builder engaged in pre-sale marketing to flipper speculators who bought in early on at a low price. This of course removes the incentive for the developer to push forward to completion since he could start another project on the same site at much higher prices. This is similar to what happened with Ice Tower becoming the smaller Iron Tower. We can not state that this is what the case is with Park 32 at this time.

How To Transport Your New Kayak? Get A Car Rack

January 31st, 2012

Right after you buy a kayak, you’ll find you also need to buy a car rack to carry it. There are three types of car racks to choose among.

People who are shopping for car racks notice right away that there are many to choose from. There are many ways to travel with your kayak on the roof of your vehicle. You want to choose the best one for your kayak and your vehicle. You want to be sure the system that you pick is reliable and suitable for your kayak’s size.

All three types of kayak mountings are efficient, depending on the vehicle and the kayak.

Vertical Support System
The vertical support system normally goes on the rear of the vehicle and is usually used on vans or SUVs. The holder has upright poles and straps to keep the kayak in position.

Saddle System
The saddle system has four padded holders attached to the vehicle for the kayak to sit on. Straps wrap around the kayak to hold it fast.

Roller System
The roller system is similar to the saddle system except it has wheels that make loading and removing the kayak easier.

People usually travel with their kayaks on the roof. Each system works reliably with proper installation, and each system adjusts to the size of the kayak and works for all vehicles. So just choose one, put it on and hit the road and the water!

Training for Wrestling

January 31st, 2012

The wrestling training plays a very important role in shaping a wrestler, the amount of time he/she spends in training and practicing in summation will show up at their performance.

The following steps can be helpful for getting started with wrestling practice:

Work out the posterior chain muscles

The posterior chain is the powerful area of the body that comprises the glutens, and hamstrings, is a key section to concentrate on for overall wrestling performances. There shall be will notice a marked improvement in speed and power in the neutral and bottom positions once strength improves in these areas. Some really good exercises to enhance the posterior chain are good-mornings, stiff-leg dead lifts, dead lifts, barbell squats (bar low on shoulders). For ultimate in working out the posterior chain muscles, reverse hyperextension and the Russian glute-ham-gastroc machine are advised.

Wrestle fast

Wrestlers those that try to move a barbell quickly in their workouts use momentum to help move the weight. To wrestle fast one should minimize the momentum, and maximize the amount of muscle that gets worked by slowing down. It depends on fast or slow one move a weight during the strength training.

Building up the protein

You need to add on proteins rather than carbs, whether you are trying to cut weight or go up a weight class, you need regular feedings of protein. Protein helps to repair and rebuild the muscle tissues. It is vital to keep up protein feedings if you are trying to cut weight unless of course you dont mind losing muscle and getting weaker. The difference lies in the carbohydrate intake. If you need to lose weight, you should begin slowly dropping carbs, but never completely. You cant wrestle if you dont have energy to burn. Carbohydrates are you bodys preferred source of energy.

Goji and Cancer

January 30th, 2012

According to World Health Organization statistics, more than 10 million new cases of cancer are diagnosed annually. The disease kills more than 6 million people each year, making cancer the second leading cause of death throughout the world.

In the United States alone, cancer has just eclipsed heart disease to become the countrys number one killer.

There is much that you can do to decrease your risk of cancer and to help your body to battle it should it strike. With a little education, you can arm yourself against this deadly enemy.

What Is Cancer?

Cancer is a group of many related diseases that begin in cells, the bodys basic building blocks. To understand cancer, it is helpful to know what happens when normal cells become cancerous.

Normally, cells grow and divide to produce more cells as they are needed to keep the body healthy. Sometimes, this orderly process goes wrong. New cells form when the body does not need them, and old cells do not die when they should. The extra cells form a mass of tissue called a growth, or tumor. Not all tumors are cancerous; tumors can be benign or malignant.

Benign tumors are not cancer. They can often be removed and, in most cases, they do not come back. Cells in benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the body. Most important, benign tumors are rarely a threat to life.

Malignant tumors are cancer. Cells in malignant tumors are abnormal and divide without control or order. Cancer cells invade and destroy the tissue around them. They can also break away from a malignant tumor and enter the bloodstream or lymphatic system, which can carry them throughout the body, causing new tumors to form in other organs. The spread of cancer is called metastasis.

Scientists have learned that cancer is caused by changes in genes that control normal cell growth and cell death. Certain lifestyle and environmental factors can damage genetic DNA, causing the genes to mutate and promote cancer growth. The National Cancer Institute lists five prime causes of cancer-promoting genetic mutations: tobacco use; poor diet; UV radiation from the sun; exposure to environmental toxins and pollutants; and inherited predisposition to cancer.

DNA is the most vital chemical in your body, carrying the blueprint of your entire genetic history. Gojis betaine and master molecule polysaccharide can restore and repair damaged DNA, protecting your bodys ten trillion cells.

Cancer Prevention and Treatment

You can reduced the risk of getting cancer by not using tobacco products, avoiding harmful rays of the sun, exercising regularly, avoiding obesity and choosing foods with less fat, and consuming more vegetables, whole grains, fruits and juices especially cancer-preventive, phytonutrient-rich goji.

Goji is one of the only plant species one earth that contains the anti-cancer mineral germanium. Its antioxidants are unique polysaccharides can stop the genetic mutations that can lead to cancer.

Goji increases stamina and endurance, and helps to eliminate fatigue especially when recovering from illness. Lymphocytes are specialized white blood cells that are of crucial importance to the adaptive part of the bodys immune system. The adaptive portion of the immune system mounts a tailor-made defense when dangerous invading organisms penetrate the bodys general defenses. Goji increases lymphocyte count and helps to activate them when the body is under attack.

Goji has been shown to enhance the effects of radiation in combating cancer, allowing a lower dose to be used. Other research indicates that goji can protect against some of the noxious side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.

Goji polysaccharides have been shown in Chinese studies to enhance the production of IL-2, a crucial cytokine (cell protein) that induces potent anti-tumor responses in a variety of cancers. Goji also kills tumor cells by inducing apoptosis, a process in which cancer cells are broken down and recycled.

Patients receiving a cancer drug together with goji exhibited response rates up to 250 percent better than those obtained by the drug alone. These advanced cancer patients experienced amazing regressions of malignant melanoma, renal cell carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, lung cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and malignant hydrothorax. Remission of cancers in patients treated with goji lasted significantly longer than those treated without goji.

Research and traditional use for cancer prevention suggests a daily intake of 2 to 4 ounces of high-quality standaridized goji juice, taken with meals. For cancer management, take 4 to 8 ounces daily, to be taken with meals.

Tag, You’re It! (Or, How To Write Slogans)

January 30th, 2012

Some call them “tag lines”; others refer to them as”catch lines” or “tie-in-slogans.” Whatever the words used to refer to them, they are perhaps the most important part of your promotional writing.

Do you recognize any of these? :

“Like a rock…”
“Fly the friendly skies…”
“It’s the real thing !”
“Quality is job number one”
“The quicker-picker-upper”

Most of those tag lines are recognizable by us without even including the name of the company or product.

They summarize in a very few words the essence of the thing they are promoting. They communicate a good, positive feeling or relationship to the product. They do it with a simple, memorable phrase that is easily repeated.

The shorter the description is, the more challenging it is to write. Anyone can write a 500-word description of a product or service. Now try doing it with 5 to 10 words ! Each word you choose is very important to the message.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS for writing good taglines for your business offer.

1) Start by noticing ads on billboards as you drive down the road.

Billboard advertisers have but a couple of seconds to grab your attention and sell their product or service. Usually their copy is going to be a very good tagline with a picture of the product or service. These are great examples of how to write effective taglines.

2) Notice other media forms like magazine and newspaper display ads, business cards, brief radio and TV commercials.

Observe the thing that caught your attention and makes the message easily remembered. It’s usually a concise and well-written tagline.

3) Write down everything you can think of that relates to your business. You may even start with a narrative description in paragraph form.

4) Now, make a list of the top 25 or 30 things that are important and worth mentioning.

Whittle that list down to 8 or 10 of the most important things you wish to say.

Now eliminate repetition or things that are not really that necessary to your product or service.

Get your list of words or phrases down to 3 or 4 central elements.

5) Based on your final core selection, make up some phrases that will serve as your taglines for consideration. Keep them short and use simple, everyday language.

Which of these taglines would you remember best? :

“Joe’s auto repair shop, the lowest-prices and the best service”

OR

“Quality Care For Your Car !”

=====

“The Best Tax Service Anywhere Around The Town !”

OR

“Your Tax Experts At Work !”

=====

“Emergengy ambulance service available 24-hours a day”

OR

“When Minutes Count!”

Well, you get the idea!

Do some test marketing with your final two or three best taglines. Discover the one that works best for you and incorporate it into all of your promotional messages.

Remember, like any of life’s endeavors, experience and practice help to improve your skills level. If you want to be a good writer, write a lot!

Best of luck with your promotional efforts.

Surgeon General Uncertain About What Hospital To Check His Grandmother Into

January 30th, 2012

The S.rgeon General, after reading the results of a recent report about the alarming number of fatalities in U. S. hospitals that are due to preventable human error, was uncertain about what hospital to check his grandmother into when he learned that she was suffering from shortness of breath.

He decided the time had come from decisive government action. As a result, all hospitals must now display at the registration desk the following warning: “The Surgeon General has determined that hospitals may be hazardous to your health and may result in accidental death.”

The American Civil Liberties Union is protesting the necessity of posting the warning, maintaining it infringes on the right of hospitals to conduct their business with the normal expectation that a certain number of patients will live and a certain number will leave in a less vital condition.

A spokesman for the ACLU stated, “This is clearly an infringement of the right to free enterprise. Hospitals should be entirely free to inform patients they can expect excellent healthcare, even if the spokesperson is not certain the institution can provide it. Compelling hospitals to be forthright about the prospects for survival unnecessarily infringes on their right to misinform patients.”

Commenting on the issue, Chief Justice John Roberts said, “I can’t comment because I could get appendicitis at any time, and I certainly wouldn’t want the hospital to suspect I may not, should I survive the operation, act in its best interest.”

In an effort to bolster the government’s case, the FDA plans to establish a task force composed of hospital inspectors who will impersonate patients. At the end of a one year trial, a determination will be made of how many are still alive. Further action will be based on the tally

The Secret To Never Ending Financial Success

January 29th, 2012

Which one will you choose: Wealth or Happiness?

Well: you can have BOTH.

You can be both rich and happy. It is great to have a huge bank account and at the same time, enjoy life with your loved ones. Money alone will never buy you happiness; but money can help you enjoy life more, which enhances your happiness.

Many people are saying that it is getting harder and harder to earn and make money these days. That may be true to some extent, but it all depends on the person and how he maximizes the use of resources available to him.

Mergers, downsizing of companies, and massive lay-offs occur more often now. Affected employees take this chance to engage in their true passions and open small businesses, do consulting work, join network marketing, and try their hand in internet businesses.

Indeed, these challenging times provide opportunities to build a business, which is arguably one of the best ways to become rich. These global circumstances ushered in the age of entrepreneurship where many young people are getting rich and strutting their way to the bank!

So, how were they able to do it? How were they able to overcome adversities and bounce back to lead happy and prosperous lives? What is the secret to their happiness and never-ending financial success?

The secret is in their perspective. These people live in a state of abundance. When you live in such a world, you will not be bothered by limitations. Do you want a successful career and a close relationship with your family? You can have both! Do you want to focus on business and still have enough time for fun and play? You can have both! Do you want to earn a fortune and do the work you love? Yes, you can have both!

These people have transcended the world of limitations. They keep in mind that there is limitless supply for everybody. They abhor penny pinching and aspire for the best. They believe that there will be always plenty of money to go around. They also think, Isnt it a shame to live cheaply in an abundant world?

But this is not to say that you should rush out, shop, max out your credit card, and become financially irresponsible. This is not the way to minimize your money worries. What it means is that you must find your true passion and live your lifes purpose.

People who live with true abundance never worry about having enough. Worry keeps you from feeling free and joyful. Worry leads to a life full of fears. Fear gets in the way of creativity, change, and growth. It makes you seek stability and status quo. If you keep on worrying, it is difficult, if not impossible, to think of great abundance or believe that you can have all the things you aspire for.

Wealth or happiness?? You can have both.

Expand your way of thinking and adopt an abundant mindset. Add a dose of creativity and think out of the box. Figure out a way to have the best of both worlds.

Eleven Money-Saving Auto Insurance Tips for Senior Drivers

January 29th, 2012

Following a few simple tips and taking these measures will ensure that you are getting the lowest rates possible on your auto insurance policy.

1. Avoid more Accidents, Pay Close Attention at Intersections. Auto accidents involving seniors often occur at intersections. Make sure to look ahead if you plan to quickly change lanes after an intersection. Pay attention to protected left turn lanes with their own arrows, and always keep your tires pointed straight ahead when stopped, so that a rear-end accident doesn’t push you into oncoming traffic.

2. Follow the flow of traffic, Drive at the at or near the speed limit. Driving too slowly can be just as dangerous as speeding, especially when entering or exiting interstates or freeways. It can also trigger dangerous “road rage” in less patient drivers. You dont have to be Mario Andretti, but keeping to the right and following the flow of traffic is the safest bet.

3. Many violations include failure to yield right-of-way, improper turning or incorrect lane changes, so keep current on the traffic laws relating to new traffic designs.

4. Sit high enough in your seat so that you can see at least 10 feet in front of your car, advises the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If your car seat does not adjust to allow this, add a cushion. This will make it easier to see pedestrians and bike riders, and reduce problems from oncoming headlight glare at night.

5. Do not wear sunglasses or tinted glasses when driving at night. For many older drivers, night vision is reduced, so safety dictates not driving at twilight or after dark.

6. Make sure you learn how to operate a New Car. Things like Anti-lock brakes, for example operate differently in slippery situations. If you have never driven a car with anti-lock brakes, sure to get training on proper use.

7. Senior drivers can refresh their skills and knowledge — and get a discount on auto insurance in many states — by taking a refresher driving course, such as the eight-hour “55 Alive” course offered by AARP. More than two-thirds of states mandate auto insurance policy discounts for such courses, and many insurance companies offer the discounts voluntarily.

8. Look for cars with rear-view mirrors that automatically dim and filter out headlight glare.

9. Air bag technology has become more advanced, with sensors that deploy air bags based on the weight of the occupant, reducing air-bag-related injuries. Some new cars also have side air bags in the seats or door frame that offer better protection.

10. Consider fit and comfort in your new car. Seat belts that comfortably fit over your shoulder and low on your lap will keep you safer. Automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes require less physical effort.

11. Last but definitely not least, Check to see which companies offer specific Senior Discounts While shopping around for the best auto insurance rates is important, which insurance company you choose might depend on how they treat senior drivers. You’ll get their best rates if you’re healthy and drive a safe, modern vehicle.

Secrets Of Stretching

January 29th, 2012

Whether you are have a program of flexibility you are just getting ready to start one, you want to get the most from your efforts. Before we discuss the specifics of how to stretch effectively lets briefly look at some of the benefits of stretching which include: improved flexibility, enhanced sports performance, increased space in the body, feel better in your body, improved energy flow, and counter the effects of aging.

Stretching helps to produce better overall health. And when your health is good you have more choices in your life. When things you want to do in life are restricted by an inability to move then possibilities for happiness and satisfaction in life start to dwindle. Life becomes smaller. The more choices we have in life the happier we can be.

What limits stretching and flexibility? Here is a list of things that influence your flexibility:

Fear afraid of going further which simply sends a message to your nervous system to stay stuck
Inability to relax. Tight muscles dont stretch that far!
Genetics
Lifestyle stress / diet
Repetitive motion (causes cross linking of cells)
Past injuries
Temperature – a 1-2% increase in temperature improves flexibility
Time of day – less flexible in the morning – more flexible in afternoon peaking
from 2-4:30
Gender – women are generally more flexible than men
Lack of a regular flexibility program or practice and inactivity
Overly developed muscles
Too much tissue or fat in a specific area
How healthy is the joint where you are stretching joint diseases? Arthristis? bursitis?
Calcium deposits?
Bad bio mechanics not stretching properly/effectively

Five basic principals of flexibilty

1. Your muscles must be relaxed; sometimes we need to trick them into relaxation.
2. You must feel safe or your nervous system will refuse to relax: use props, chairs, blocks, partners etc.
3. Repetition and intensity will reset your ability to stretch tissues longer.
4. Stretching must be done slowly for at least a minute.
5. Start with simpler streches and work towards more challenging ones. Warm up is important.

Listen to your body and playing the edge

In yoga the term edge refers to the place where sensation gives way to pain. Most often the edge is physical, but it can be psychological as well. Think of the edge as a continuum, where at one end you feel slight sensation and at the other end pain. As you approach your edge you feel more and more sensation until you feel pain. If we continue to push through the pain we risk injury. This is an important concept to grasp because as you spend time in different asanas, it is natural for you to want your body to open and deepen into the postures. By recognizing your edges and working with them in appropriate ways you can effectively and safely accomplish this.

Lets first look at what is happening on a physiological level. Within your muscles are special sensors called muscle spindle apparatus. The muscle spindle apparatus run parallel to the muscle fibers, and their job is to report how much the muscle is being stretched to the central nervous system. If the muscle stretches too hard and too quickly then the muscle contracts in a protective response known as the reflex arc. This of course is the opposite of what you want. In order for the muscle to lengthen over time you need to reset the muscle spindle apparatus. This is done by taking the posture to your edge where you are feeling lots of sensation- not pain! This should be done slowly with lots of awareness and use of the breath. This process done over and over again helps to reset the muscle spindle apparatus and allow the muscle to lengthen.

So, an important concept in working with your edges is to become aware of them, to tune into your body and feel what is happening when you are in a posture. It is helpful to keep in mind that your edges change from day to day, depending on how you feel mentally, emotionally and physically. Sometimes you feel strong and willful, desiring to push your edge. At other times you might be tired or find your body is particularly tight and you want to go easy. Remember, honoring where you body is at in the moment is very important. It is not about pushing beyond your edge as this is a good way to risk injury. Tuning into the relaxed side of the edge give you time and room to explore the exercise/ posture safely. Too often I see people just go into and out of postures quickly more injuries occur this way than in the exercise/posture itself! Take your time going into an exercise/posture , and coming out with awareness and with the breath.

Safety Guidelines

1. As mentioned above do not go to a point of pain just sensation pain causes injury resulting in scar tissue which only reduces flexibility.
2.
Do not bounce or make jerky motions (ballistic stretch) can result in microscopic tears which will only make your body tighter less flexible
3. Some stretching techniques that you will learn are very powerful Add just 1to 2 at a time and then go back and do the exercise again.
4. Do not stretch past normal range of motion.
5. Ideally we want to find a balance between strength and flexibility do not let a joint become overly loose.

Fall Foliage Scenic Drive in Vermont

January 29th, 2012

This fall foliage scenic drive in Central Vermont is a loop tour of about 150 miles. Although its possible to do the drive in one day and bypass many of the attractions and rambles suggested, Id recommend you carve out a weekend to do it justice.

The drive offers some of the best views in the Green Mountain National Forest, which in the fall is dramatic and stunning.

The scenic drive follows mostly Route 12 south from Montpelier to Woodstock, before heading north on Route 100 and 100B back to Montpelier. Youll discover plenty of surprises on the way, but its no surprise youll experience some magnificent fall foliage views all along the way.

Okay, start the ignition and lets get going…

Our journey begins in Montpelier, the smallest state capital city in America. Montpelier is on the northern fringe of central Vermont, and is 182 miles from Boston and 198 miles from Hartford. It can be easily reached from Interstate 89.

Take Route 12 out of Montpelier and head south to Northfield Falls. Vermont has many fine examples of covered bridges, but two of them in Northfield Falls can be seen at once, as you look through one to other. This is unique in New England and definitely worth taking the camera out to capture.

Continue on Route 12 making your way to Bethel.

Bethel is one of those Vermont towns thats a natural part of the scenery. Could this be why its home to the White River National Fish Hatchery? The hatchery focuses on restoring Atlantic Salmon to the Connecticut River. Its open 8:00am – 3:00pm daily.

From Bethel youll continue on the final leg of the southern route to Woodstock.

The Woodstock area offers a number of attractions, including Billings Farm and Museum, and Quechee Gorge. Woodstock itself is one of those picture-perfect Vermont villages thats fun just to stroll around checking out the boutiques and restaurants.

The Billings Farm and Museum was established in 1871, and today its a working farm, and a museum depicting farm life in the late 1800s. Depending on the time you visit the museum has seasonal activities so check ahead to see whats going on the day you plan to arrive.

Quechee Gorge is Vermonts little Grand Canyon. Not quite as big a crack in the ground as in Arizona, but at a mile long and plenty of hiking and walking trails on offer, its a chance to admire the scenery and stretch the legs. Be sure to walk to the picnic area overlooking the falls for a Kodak moment.

The next 20 miles of the scenic drive takes you cross-country on Route 4 to Killington. Killington is a world famous ski area that covers six mountains. At over 4,200 it offers spectacular views from the summit. Theres very few better places to appreciate the fall foliage than at the top of Killington Peak. If its running take the K1-Gondola from base. You can ride the Gondola daily from late September – early October. Call ahead for schedule or visit their web site at www.killington.com.

Killington is about the halfway point in this tour, and if you decide to linger overnight in the area then the beautiful town of Rutland is close-by with plenty of lodging. Just be sure to make reservations during the heavy visited peak fall foliage season.

The next section of the tour follows Route 100 as it borders the Green Mountain National Forest. Youll pass through the towns of Pittsfield, Hancock, Granville, and Waitsfield as you tour perhaps the most scenic areas and diverse terrain youll see on this drive.

Just North of Hancock and close to Route100 on Route 125 is Texas Falls. The trail to the falls is an easy hike and offers marvelous views anytime of the year, but especially during fall foliage season when the colors dazzle.

The larger Moss Glen Falls is just north of Granville a few miles up from Hancock. The drive from Hancock towards the falls is a two-lane winding road that passes through a seven-mile stretch of rough wilderness, and worth taking at a slow and easy pace.

The final leg of this central Vermont scenic drive from Granville to Middlesex and back to Montpelier continues to provide startling scenery and great photo opportunities. Route 100B connects with Route 100 just south of Moretown village, and youll take 100B north to Middlesex and then join Interstate 89 for the quick hop back into Montpelier.

This fall foliage scenic drive offers oodles of opportunities for detours and backroad excursions. My advice is to give yourself the time to get distracted and follow a few inviting roads leading away from busy highways, and become a Vermonter for a few days. Youll appreciate a fall Vermont and understand why the people that live here wouldnt trade it for any other place in the world.

Vermonters quip the state really has five seasons – spring, summer, fall, winter, and the famous mud season. But my personal favorite in Vermont is the fall. Take this tour and youll understand why.

f women who experience painful menstrual

January 28th, 2012

Birth control has been widely used by many women across the U.S. mainly to provide protection against unwanted pregnancy. At present, many pharmaceutical companies are still developing new methods of birth control, from the popular birth control pills to implants, injections, and even sponges. In men, the only contraceptive method used by many would be condoms. Today, research and clinical trials are being done in order to develop yet another form of contraceptive, and that is male birth control. Developers believe that this new birth control for men will hit the shelves in about five to seven years.

The Inn At Kristofer’s In Sister Bay Wisconsin Offers A Great Dining Experience

January 27th, 2012

Door County, Wisconsin is a popular destination for tens of thousands of travelers every year. Small villages with populations of less than 500 people swell to large crowds during the summer weekends as people head to Door County for some rest, relaxation, time on the water, and good food.

The Inn at Kristofers, located on Bay Shore Drive in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, is a wonderful place to go for a special meal. My husband and I treated ourselves to dinner there during our latest trip to Door County and we were very glad we did. We had a great meal.

The first thing we noticed after being seated was the beautiful view of the water. The restaurant is directly across the street from the Bay in Sister Bay and large picture windows along the front wall of the restaurant showcase the water view.

Immediately after being seated our water glasses were filled and a wedge of fresh lime was added. We were given menus and fresh, warm, multi-grain rolls. The rolls were served with butter rosettes flavored with fresh basil.

The entre special that evening was grilled quail which my husband ordered. I had the certified Angus filet mignon, and our oldest son, who had joined us on our vacation, chose the Roast Duck with Orange Grand Marnier sauce.

Because we wanted to save room for dessert we skipped appetizers, soup, and salad although the featured soup for the evening, maple butternut squash bisque topped with pecans, sounded delicious.

All three entrees were excellent. The presentation of the plates was pretty and the food tasted as good as it looked. The Angus filet had a Cabernet sauce that was just the right touch with the beef. Homemade garlic mashed potatoes and a garnish of haystack potatoes rounded out the entre.

The duck was tender, moist, and very flavorful. It was accompanied by fresh steamed vegetables that were cooked just right, and wild rice that contained dried cranberries and nuts.

The grilled quail was, according to my husband, cooked to perfection. He really enjoyed it. It was accompanied by the same wild rice as the duck and a crepe filled with a cranberry sauce, which he thought was delicious.as well.

For dessert we split two selections; a pumpkin mousse torte and the crme brulee. The pumpkin mousse torte had a very light pumpkin flavor and was served with a caramel sauce and fresh whipped cream. The crme brulee was flamed at the table with Grand Marnier. The combination of creamy vanilla custard, crunchy caramelized topping, and Grand Marnier was delicious.

Although the Inn at Kristofers is not an inexpensive restaurant, it is a wonderful place to go for a special meal whether its for someones birthday, anniversary, or just to treat yourself. I highly recommend trying it. The food is excellent and so is the service. Although we didnt have reservations when we dined there, you may want to call ahead and make reservations, especially if you are heading to Door County during the busy summer months (http://www.doorcountycountry.com/food/innatkristoferssisterbay/).

Sudoku Puzzles

January 27th, 2012

Sudoku Puzzles, which are also popularly known as the Number Place, was originally a game puzzle published for a newspaper in France. The year 1895 saw the birth of the said puzzle game. The Number Place puzzle was subsequently revived during the mid-80s in Japan and was later known as the Sudoku Puzzles. It started to gain its popularity among the international community during 2005.

During the revival of what was originally the Number Place puzzle in Japan, publishers abbreviated the phrase suuji wa dokushin ni kagiru, which literally meant the digits must remain single, and came up with the more popular name, Sudoku Puzzles.

The Sudoku Puzzles, unlike others, have a very easy instruction to follow. Although numbers have been conventionally used as the symbol or character for the puzzle, some of its variations substitute the numbers with letters, geometric figures, and others. Another version of the puzzle even used the positions in a baseball game to replace the numbers between one and nine. The characters used are actually irrelevant to the objective of the game itself.

The logic of the Sudoku puzzles is very simple. A grid with a dimension that is usually 3×3, the region, is found inside an outer grid with a consequent dimension of usually 9×9. All in all therefore, a total of 81 mini squares could be found. Some of these mini squares are marked by a certain character. Take for example, any number between 1 9. These characters are what they call the givens. The objective of the game is to place the numbers within the specified range. Also, these numbers must be placed in all the remaining blocks. The difficult part now rests on the task of making sure that horizontally, vertically, and regionally, there is no repetition of any of the numbers within the specified range.

The said puzzle games then became known as a type of game that would stimulate a person’s logical reasoning, as well as other mental faculties. Some teachers even suggest this game to be able to stimulate and exercise the said cognitive function. Although it seems simple enough to solve, solving an entire puzzle would require complex mental functions. The mental functions needed will depend on the complexity of the given Sudoku Puzzles.

Some puzzles for the novice solvers come as big as a 25×25 grid. This would mean that there would be a total of 625 characters that need to be placed in an order that would satisfy the conditions of the puzzle. However, Sudoku Puzzles also cater to young people who are delighted by finding solutions to problems. A 4×4 version of the puzzle is available for kids to practice on.

Newspapers in the 1800s were good enough to supply their audience with a daily dose of the Sudoku Puzzles. This allowed for the puzzle to gain great popularity among fans of brain-twisters. It actually became as regular, during that time, as the more common crossword puzzle of our current daily newspaper.

Sudoku Puzzles have been part of this civilization. It is safe to conclude that it will definitely continue to do so. As long as people want to exercise their logical and deductive reasoning, it will continue to be published and supplied by fans and enthusiasts. This is especially true now that computer programs allow for game developers to the increase the dimensions of given Sudoku Puzzles. There is virtually an indefinite limit to how difficult one of these puzzles could get.

Gas Grills For Summer BBQ Fun

January 27th, 2012

The weather is warming up and many folks are taking advantage of it by spending more time outdoors and inviting their friends and family to share in fun summer activities.

If you want to do the same, but find your outdoor space lacking when it comes to being equipped for entertainment purposes, one of the best investments you could make is buying a gas grill.

Not only will a new gas grill give the appearance that you are the outdoor entertainment king or queen, a gas grill will bring you a great deal of enjoyment, not to mention great steaks, burgers, dogs, chicken I think you get the picture.

And gas grills are so much more fun than their charcoal pit counterparts. Just imagine the ease and simplicity of turning a control to start your grill. No more messing with charcoal and waiting endlessly until it is hot enough to grill. With gas you can begin grilling almost immediately after the inspiration has struck you.

Gas grills are also very affordable. Some of the most popular models are priced under $500. These grills are usually made out of cast aluminum and offer features such as side burners and rotisseries.

The next pricing level for gas grills starts at more than $500 and can be as high as $1,500. These grills offer more style, versatility and durability. Gas grills in this price range are normally made out of stainless steel and produce better heat than their less expensive counterparts. These grills also can be equipped with cooking lights, rotisseries and multiple cooking surfaces.

If you want a professional grill, be prepared to spend a few thousand dollars. On the other hand, be prepared to embrace the grilling experience of your life. These grills are unbeatable when it comes to style, durability and features.

Many professional gas grills come equipped with multiple cooking surfaces, smoking trays, storage space, and refrigerators, and these grills are made completely with stainless steel down to the very last bolt. Additionally, professional gas grills offer you many cooking options such as natural gas, butane gas, infrared and charcoal, and all of these features can be used at the same time.

So if you are looking for the perfect centerpiece for your summer outdoor entertainment spot, maybe a gas grill is just what you need. A small investment now could bring you decades of outdoor grilling, entertainment and enjoyment. And your family will love you for it.

How To Cook The Best Steak In The World

January 27th, 2012

Every person likes their steak cooked a different way, so throughout this article I will make sure that I cover each possible different way so that you will always get the best result for yourself or whoever you cook for.

There are several different cuts of beef that will make a great steak, and there are also many grades of beef to consider, depending on what the cow was fed on the farm, so your first step is to choose which one you would prefer. The choices include rump, scotch fillet, porterhouse, eye fillet and T-bone as the main premium cuts generally eaten. The beef’s grading will come down largely to marbling and maturity of the meat. There is a debate as to which is better out of grain-fed and grass-fed cattle, and really the answer is grass-fed beef is healthier for you as it is the most natural form of the cattle, while grain-fed beef will have a lot more marbling and flavour, so I will leave that choice up to you which way you want to go. As for maturity, I recommend finding a butcher that will hang your meat for quite a long time in their meat locker before carving it, I have found that 27 days is ideal. This will help tenderize the meat by having it stretched out and relaxing the muscles, to give you the best possible final result.

The rump and porterhouse are firmer cuts, and the rump in particular can be a bit tougher and chewier than the rest, and you will find a strip of fat at the top of each of these steaks, which will help flavour and tenderize the steak during the cooking process. Both these cuts I would recommend eating rare to medium-rare (I will discuss steak doneness a little later).

Meanwhile the scotch fillet will come very nicely marbled with fat throughout, and can usually be distinguished by a C-shaped piece of fat close to one side. Due to the marbling it will be very tender and full of flavour (however if you’re on a diet it may be one to avoid for now), and I recommend eating it medium-rare to medium.

The eye fillet is the most tender cut of beef, and will normally be free of fat, although this also means you may need to do something extra to add some flavour to it, the most popular way being to wrap bacon around it during cooking, so the fatty flavours of the bacon are absorbed by the steak. This is my personal favourite steak, and is best eaten medium-rare to medium.

Lastly we come to the T-bone, which has both the eye fillet and porterhouse on either side of the bone, and will get its flavour from the strip of fat on the outside of the porterhouse. I recommend eating the T-bone rare to medium-rare, though it can be tricky to cook evenly due to the bone in the middle.

Once you’ve decided which cut of steak you will be eating, you need to work out how big a piece of meat you want. A normal-sized steak is generally around 300g for a good-sized meal, however it could range anywhere from 150g up to 1kg and even more! The size of your steak will become important later when you want to cook it to a particular doneness. For example, two different rump steaks could quite easily weigh the same amount, yet be completely different shapes, sometimes they can be wide and flat, and sometimes short and thick, depending on what part of the rump the steak was cut from. Choosing the size of your steak and the shape go hand-in-hand, it’s best to have a thicker steak for a rare or medium-rare steak, and when you want a medium-well or above thinner is better. This is so it doesn’t take a long time for you to cook, and you can still have a juicy steak without burning the outside.

Now let’s just get away from the steak for a minute and think about what you’re actually going to cook it on. Ideally you should have a chargrill, one that sits on an angle, and has enough space underneath the flame to have a tray that you can put a small piece of wood on. What I personally prefer is mesquite wood, which comes from the USA, and the best thing to do is to soak it in water for a couple of hours before cooking. This will help the wood give off its smoky flavour rather than just burn away, and it will also last longer, usually for at least a couple of hours.

I mentioned earlier that if possible your grill should be built on an angle, sloping up towards the back. As you know, heat rises, so naturally you should find the hottest part of your grill at the back, and get slightly cooler closer to the front. Most grills and hotplates in general will have certain “hotspots” that you will need to find for each one to work out the bests places to position your food when cooking. Once you’ve used a particular grill a couple of times you should find it quite easy to figure out your favourite spots to cook on. The combination of knowing where your “hotspots” are and using an angled grill will make it easier to find the best position to cook your steak. If you don’t have a chargrill to use and you have a flatgrill or a hotplate instead, I would recommend not cooking your steak entirely through on the hotplate, particularly for medium or above, seal it on both sides then place your steak on a tray and finish it off in an oven. Otherwise all you will do is burn the outside and lose all the moisture and juiciness from your meat.

The other element to consider is how you would like your steak cooked. In general, a well-done steak should be placed at the back, a medium steak in the middle of the grill, and a rare steak at the front. Obviously, this leaves medium-rare between the front and middle, and the medium-well between the middle and the back. In some situations you will need to adjust this slightly depending on the size and shape of your steak, a big, thick rump may need to be pushed a bit further up the grill to cook properly, while a thin and flat porterhouse might be best kept a little closer to the front to avoid overcooking. Your steak positioning will come down largely to personal preference and a bit of practice and experience with your grill.

Now that you should have worked out where on the grill you will place your steak, you’re almost ready to start cooking! What you need to consider now is how you will season your steak. You may not want any seasoning, that’s fine, go right ahead and start cooking. If you wish to use salt and pepper, I would suggest waiting until one side of your steak has been sealed before sprinkling any on, as salt has the tendency to leech out some of the moisture from your meat. My preferred method of seasoning is to get a really good steak seasoning spice and generously cover both sides before placing your steak on the grill. When you do place your steak on the grill, if you are going to have a rump or a porterhouse, make sure you place the strip of fat at the top, so as it cooks the fat will melt and drip through the steak, adding extra flavour to your meat.

The process of actually cooking your steak is quite simple, but there are a few key things you need to know to get the best result. Firstly, the advantage of using the chargrill means you can have nice cross-markings on your steak when it’s finished, which looks fantastic for presentation. To achieve this, your steak will need to be turned three times, the first time straight over itself, then on the second turn spin it around 90 degrees so the lines from the grill will cross over each other and make little brown squares all over the steak, and then the third and final turn will be straight over itself again. When you’re finished the steak should have cross-markings on both sides, and you can choose whichever side looks best to serve facing up.

What you should find if you have got the grill positioning right for your preferred doneness, 3-4 minutes in between each turn should have your steak turn out just the way you like it! (If you are cooking your steak bleu, you only need to cook it for 3 minutes on each side in total, just enough to seal each side basically).

This is just a guide to work by only, as each grill will produce slightly different results, but definitely the most important stage of cooking your steak is knowing when it is at the exact doneness you would like. This can sometimes be a little tricky, but there are a couple of methods for testing your steak without needing to cut into it. The best method to use when you’re just starting to learn would be what I call the “thumb test”. Hold your left hand out open and relaxed, and press the flesh of your left thumb with your right index finger. It should feel quite soft, and this is how a rare steak should feel when you press it with your finger.

Now lightly touch your left thumb to your left index finger, and press the flesh of your thumb with your right index finger. This is how a medium-rare steak should feel when it’s ready. Next, lightly touch your left thumb to your left middle finger, and pressing the flesh of your left thumb will feel like a medium steak when it’s ready.

Touching your left thumb to your left ring finger will make the flesh of your left thumb feel like a medium-well steak, and touching the left thumb to your left little finger will make the flesh of your thumb feel like a well-done steak. Try this out as a guide to get you started, and as with all things, practice and experience will help you hone your ability and instincts to know just when your steak is cooked to perfection! And just as importantly, make sure you get feedback from every person that you cook a steak for, this will make your progress go much faster. As they say, “feedback is the breakfast of champions!”

Another method to use, which can be a little bit sneaky, is if you can see into the middle of the steak at the edges to see what colour the middle looks like. This works really well for a scotch fillet, as you can gently pull away part of the meat right where the C-shaped piece of fat is without damaging your steak, and see if the inside is red, pink or grey.

Now I will explain to you each doneness, so you can work out how you would like to cook it and so you know what to look for when it is finished.

I will start with bleu, which is basically just sealed, is still very red in the middle, quite mushy to the touch, and will feel a little cool inside, only slightly warmed.

Rare is red in the middle from edge to edge, a little mushy, and will just feel warm inside. Medium-rare is red in the middle and pink at the edges, and will feel warm inside. Medium is pink in the middle from edge to edge, feels tender to the touch, and will be warm to hot inside. Medium-well still has a quarter in the middle that is pink, and will be grey at the edges, feels quite firm and is hot inside. If you plan to cook your steak medium-well or above, I would suggest you could speed up the cooking time by using a steak weight to place on top of your steak. It should be shiny silver and kept clean, and what will happen is the heat coming up from the flames below will be reflected down on to the top of the steak so it cooks on both sides. Make sure if you use a steak weight that you only place it on your steak after sealing one side so there is no chance of cross-contamination.

Well-done steaks are grey throughout, no pink at all, quite firm, although can still be juicy, and is very hot inside. Very well-done steaks are grey throughout with no pink at all, very firm, very hot, and no juices whatsoever. You can also get your steak cooked Pittsburgh, which basically means charring the outside so it is burnt while the inside doesn’t need to be completely cooked. For example, if you want to have your steak Pittsburgh-Rare, you could char the outside, and the inside would be red in the middle from edge to edge. To do this you will need some oil or butter, I personally use lemon butter just for the flavouring, and drizzle some over the steak until it drips onto the flames underneath. Your goal here is to build the flames up so they are licking at the steak and will cook the outside much faster than the inside.

CAUTION! Be very mindful of how much butter you use, make sure you have fire safety equipment, and if necessary that you have adult supervision. Do not do this if you do not feel comfortable working with large flames, it can be very dangerous if something nearby catches fire, so please be very careful if this is how you would like to have your steak cooked.

Everybody has different preferences when it comes to their beef, but I would urge you to try each different way so you can work out for yourself what’s best for you. Many people fear the sight of blood coming out of their steak, if you can work up the courage to try something new for yourself, who know, you might find you really like it! I personally eat my steaks medium-rare, and would like to take this opportunity to mention that once your steak starts getting to medium-well and above, you really lose a lot of the nutritional benefits of eating beef, so I would recommend not cooking your steak any more than medium, but obviously that is a choice that is entirely up to you.

Now all that’s left to do is to serve up your perfectly cooked steak, there are many choices of sides and sauces, far too many to list here. I always love it with a creamy mashed potato and seasonal steamed vegetables, and my favourite sauce is mushroom sauce. If you have the time the best sauce is made using beef bones, cooked off with a little tomato paste, then make a stock by boiling the bones in water with some celery, carrots, onion, leeks, bay leaves and peppercorns. Simmer it for a couple of hours until it reduces about three-quarters, and then remove the bones and vegetables. Add some red wine and port, and reduce it down to about half of where it is now, until it starts to thicken with a nice consistency. From here you can add some sliced mushrooms, or peppercorns if you prefer, and even add a little cream if you like as well. This is very time consuming to make the jus (rich beef gravy), but if you can do it you will find it well worthwhile. One other little tip I have for you is to brush a small amount of lemon butter over your steak before saucing it, this will keep your steak very juicy and tender.

I hope you enjoy cooking and eating many steaks in the future, and make sure you go out and impress your friends with your newfound cooking skills!

Fed Hikes Interest Rates Again

January 27th, 2012

On November 1, 2005, the Federal Reserve Bank [Fed] raised interest rates one quarter of a percentage point. Since Summer 2004, outgoing Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan has been raising interest rates on a regular basis since hitting its low point of just 1%. Now at 4%, Greenspan is expected to raise rates two more times before exiting office in January 2006. Will the higher rates stave off inflation? Will the new Chairman continue Greenspans incremental adjustments upward or will he let rates level off? Speculation is rampant but there is one thing you can know for sure: you will pay more for many of lifes expenses.

A rate hike by the Fed means that you will likely pay more for something including:

Credit cards. Not known for showing much restraint, you can bet credit card companies will continue to jack up interest rates except for their best customers. Rates of 12, 15, and even 21% or more are reappearing.

Mortgage rates. Holders of fixed rate mortgages are fine, but those with variable rate mortgages will pay more. A lot more if they havent felt previous rate hikes and their mortgages are due for an upward adjustment. More money to pay mortgages means less money for disposable items.

Car loans. If you need a new car and can still find zero percent financing, then grab the offer. Car loans, personal loans, home equity loans, home equity lines of credit, loan consolidations, will all continue to increase.

Add in high fuel prices, anticipated hikes in medical costs, and Americans are getting squeezed. With the holiday season fast bearing down upon us, retailers will have to slash prices in order to attract customers who are holding a dwindling cash reserve.

For people not holding excessive debt, the Fed rate increase will be have little or no effect on them. For everyone else, the pinch is on!

Self-Esteem: How To Let Your Light Shine

January 27th, 2012

This week something interesting happened to me. I made a gift for someone, and they absolutely loved it. As they exclaimed over it and admired it, they asked if it had taken me long to make. I shrugged and said, “Just a few hours” - when in fact I spent more than 30 hours working on it. I poured alot of heart and soul into it. Why then, did I diminish it? Why did I feel the need to fib about how much effort I had put into that gift?

I must admit, I had to give that question some long, hard thought. What I realized is that I am still following the pattern that has dominated much of my life. I’m hiding my Light. You know that song, “This Little Light of Mine, I’m Gonna Let It Shine?” How many of us are afraid to let our “lights” shine? How many of us hold back a large part of ourselves?

Maybe we are afraid of being braggarts. Nobody likes a boastful, prideful person. From a young age, our parents teach us modesty and humility, which is not a bad thing in itself. But where do we draw the line? Are we not allowed to take pride in our own accomplishments at all?

There is a very big difference between sharing our gifts with the world, and showing off. When I look back across my life, I see a classic underachiever. Not because I wasn’t capable of achieving anything, but because I was ashamed and embarrassed by my own abilities and strengths. I denied them and hid them at every available opportunity. If I shared those gifts with the world, it would call attention to me, attention I didn’t feel worthy of accepting. Perhaps I was also afraid of ridicule. If I shared my heart and soul with the world, would I be laughed at or made fun of? Nothing could shoot my confidence down more quickly than rejection. Maybe you’ve had the same experiences? Have you had feelings of hesitancy about sharing your gifts? Have you been hiding your light, holding back an essential part of yourself?

How dare we hide our Lights? They are not ours to hide. They were given to us by a loving God of Light – the same light that shines within us. Each of us has a little spark of the Divine within. By denying that part of ourselves, we also deny God within us! We have a responsibility to share ourselves with the world; not in a way that proclaims us to be better than anyone else, but in a way that uplifts and enriches others. We owe it to ourselves, we owe it to the world, and we owe it to God, the one who gave us these gifts and abilities to begin with. What good is a gift that doesn’t get used? Imagine a flower being afraid to bloom, rain being afraid to fall, the sun being afraid to shine. We need to shift our perspective and realize that by hiding our lights, we are not serving anyone. Love, unexpressed, is not love at all.

So many of us think that we have nothing to share. We spend most of our days feeling like an empty shell. However, nothing is truly ever empty. Nature abhors a vacuum. Ah, remember that, from Science class? ;-) Though you may feel empty, there is something inside of you. It may be chaos or joy, optimism or pessimism, hope or doubt – but something is there. If you don’t like what it is, you have the ability to change it by the power of your thoughts.

Know that you do have something to share with the world. If you will dare to reach down inside your soul and feel around a bit, you will find a long forgotten dream. A sense of excitement that you once had, a knowingness that you could change the world and make it just a little bit brighter. Reclaim that dream. It never really left you, it just got covered with a little dust. Clean it off and set it upon your mantle of hope. Infuse it with new life, and allow it to come into Being.

Remember that you are the only one holding yourself back.

History Of Hypnosis

January 27th, 2012

The use of hypnosis as a therapeutic tool is as old as man himself. As far as can be traced back through time, we can find records of hypnosis being used to heal and to make change. Hypnosis has been used under many different names down through the centuries and the use of hypnosis for healing can be traced back to around 3000 BC in Egypt. Both the new and old testaments of the Bible speak of what could be deemed to be hypnosis, and the ancient Greeks and Romans had sleep temples where those seeking healing would be put into a trance like sleep. Their dreams, would be interpreted by the priests. By rhythmic drumming and monotonous chanting together with eye fixation, the Shaman of today can still produce catalepsy of the body and this helps to give the shaman the appearance of having magical powers just as they have done for centuries. Much of what has been done in the past by the village witchdoctor, shaman or wise woman, can be attributed to the fostering of a strong belief, conviction, expectation and imagination in the one being healed, and the chanting and singing often takes the form of what we would term as suggestion. After all, if the most powerful and magic person you know tells you will become well, you are very likely to do just that. Of course in many cases where such an individual administered to a sick person they would have recovered eventually anyway and this intervention just speeded up the healing process.

It has long been believed by many healers that body, thoughts and emotions can influence one another. Therefore it is possible to influence a physical sickness by working on and realizing particular emotions and by changing thoughts and behavioural patterns.

The Romans said MENS SANA IN CORPORE SANO, healthy mind in healthy body.

This saying seems to confirm that for many centuries it has been believed that physical and emotional well-being have an effect on one another. To put this in perspective, only has to consider how our health declines after periods of stress or as a consequence of radical events.

The division between body and mind in medicine is something that only took place around 1750, with the scientific developments from Newton. Since then the mind and spirit have been considered to be under the jurisdiction of the church and the body under the jurisdiction of science. This is also the reason why all other kinds of medicine see the human being as a whole consisting of body, mind and soul.

Traumatic experiences are not only stored on an emotional level but also on the physical level. The emotional charge of the different traumas can influence our immune system and health conditions.

Through processing old traumas and the emotional charges that are connected to a certain sickness it is possible to find resources inside of us that could help us start the healing process.

Modern hypnosis began with Anton Mesmer (1734 1815) in the 18th Century. Mesmer was a medical graduate from the famed medical school of Vienna and after studying as a Jesuit priest, he became interested in magnetism. Mesmer became Europes foremost expert at magnetic healing, where magnets where passed over the body to effect a healing. His results where fabulous and so he became very famous. Mesmer believed all living things contained a kind of magnetic fluid and if a person had enough of this fluid, they would be healthy. This is where the term Animal Magnetism comes from.

Mesmer forgot his magnets one day and so just made passes over the patient with his hands and was surprised to find that they got better. From there on, he thought he had sufficient magnetic fluid in himself top effect the cures.

James Braid (1795-1860) coined the terms hypnotism and hypnosis, in 1843. He was a Scottish surgeon working in Manchester. He found that some people could go into a trance if there eyes where fixated on a bright object like a pocket watch for instance. He believed that a neurological process was involved and that the process could be very useful when no organic origin could be found for a persons disorder.

James Esdaile (1808-1859) another Scottish surgeon working in India would use ey fixation to prepare a patient for surgery and slow sweeping motions, putting them into a deep hypnotic sleep, causing full amnesia throughout the body.

James Braid and James Esdaile where among the first who could be called scientific in their research and use of hypnosis. These pioneers removed hypnosis from the realms of mysticism, and started experimenting with what could really be done with it to help people with their disorders. Other scientific pioneers include, Liebeault, Bernheim, Brewer and Freud. Unfortunately the great man himself, Freud, was responsible for hypnotherapy being shelved by many for some time when he abandoned its use.

Amongst those individuals who have been fundamental to the current view of hypnosis are: Milton Erikson, Ormond McGill, Charles Tebbetts and Dave Elman.

Ormond McGill was, it is true a stage hypnotist, but he preserved the public interest in hypnosis, but then the great Charles Tebbetts was involved in stage hypnosis in the early part of his career, but these where different times to those we live in today and the stage hypnosis would prove to engender a desire to know more about this curious art and therefore bring many of the people who moved the therapeutic use of hypnotherapy forward through the last (20th) century.

Dave Elman brought some measure of acceptance to hypnosis from the medical profession in the USA when the Council on Medical health of the American Medical Association accepted the use of hypnotherapy in 1958.

Probably the most important contributor to the acceptance of hypnotherapy as both an art and a science, was the grandfather of hypnotherapy Dr Milton Erikson. Dr Erikson was a psychiatrist and hypnotherapist with outstanding professional credentials and because of his solid medical background he had credibility within the medical profession. Other people worthy of note for their contribution to the advancement of hypnotherapy as a healing art and as a science in the 20th century are: Rosen, Abramson, Menninger, Shenek, Magonet, Wolberg, LeCron, Bordeaux, Wetzenhoffer, Erwin and Simonton, who continues to do amazing things with cancer patients using mental imagery and focusing on beliefs and belief systems amongst other things.

What is Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is the application of therapy during hypnosis, to change or modify behaviour patterns that we wish to change, such as the compulsion to smoke, gamble, drink etc. It can help in the cure of phobias such as the fear of spiders/insects, fear of flying, fear of thunder and lightning, fear of injections etc. It can help with motivation, confidence building, reducing stress and can be very effective in pain control.

Hypnotherapy deals with Psychosomatic problems – that is, problems of the mind that are rooted in and controlled by the subconscious mind. We always do what our subconscious mind tells us even if it goes against reason and logic. Hypnotherapy therefore, bypasses the conscious mind to allow the positive life-affirming suggestions for change, of our own choosing, to be fed to our subconscious mind directly, for us to act upon.

Hypnotherapy, and more precisely, hypnotic suggestions, have a cumulative effect, so over time there is a build up of suggestions being reinforced in the subconscious mind that it will act upon, and will do so more rapidly than if you were feeding the suggestions to your conscious mind.

For problems where a causal event or events may exist in the past, hypnoanalysis is used initially in order to find the sensitising event or events and release the emotion and motor actions associated with them, thus freeing the individual from the grasp of an outdated and obsolete (possibly never really needed at all) thought pattern and/or conditioning. Following this, healing suggestions and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) are used to build on the individuals desire for change to strengthen and support forward movement into a positive future.

Hypnotherapists do not control your mind!

Hypnotherapy empowers you to take control of your mental resources to bring about the changes you want. You are always in control during hypnosis and hypnotherapy, and the therapist cannot make you do anything against your will, or that is not within you as an individual to do. With a little work a good therapist and a good client who wishes to make changes and is motivated to, will be able to achieve success in about 95% of cases.

Who can be hypnotised? I would say that virtually everyone can be hypnotised if they have a good therapist and wish to cooperate with them in order to work on the problem with which they are presenting.

What does hypnosis feel like? I know how it feels to me, but it feels different to some people than to others. I would explain it as a relaxed easy feeling and a heightened state of awareness.

Sometimes you may be prone to drift away for a while just like day-dreaming, and you might just as easily be concentrating on your therapists voice. Your good therapist will ensure you get the very best from your hypnotherapy session and will guide you in everything you need to know.
